Lokoja, March 27, 2025

The Kogi State Government has successfully completed its Primary Health Care (PHC) Human Resource for Health (HRH) mapping exercise, to strengthen its healthcare system. The exercise, which commenced on March 17, 2025, aimed to identify the number of healthcare workers and gaps in the system, providing a crucial foundation for future healthcare development.

The HRH mapping exercise is expected to inform the development of a multi-year plan spanning 2025-2028, providing a roadmap for governments at all levels and other stakeholders to address the identified gaps and improve healthcare service delivery.

This initiative is particularly important in addressing the global shortage of healthcare workers in primary healthcare.

Under the directive of the Honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr Adams Abdulazeez Adeiza, and the Executive Director of the Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KSPHCDA), Dr. Musa Omeiza Mu’azu , oversaw the exercise.

Speaking on the mapping exercise in Lokoja on Thursday, Dr. Musa Omeiza Mu’azu stated that this development was part of the state government’s efforts to improve quality healthcare delivery in the state.

“This development demonstrates the state government is committed to healthcare development, as seen in Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s commitment to improving healthcare services and ensuring citizens have access to quality healthcare,” Dr. Mu’azu said.

The team, comprising relevant stakeholders from the state and local governments, civil society organizations (CSOs) and other stakeholders, visited PHCs across the state from March 17 to 22, 2025, to conduct the mapping exercise.
