The Pro-Chancellor/Chairman Governing Council of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, has congratulated a 300-level student of the institution, from the Department of Human Kinetics, Sulaimon Taofikat Morenikeji who qualified as a member of Nigeria’s contingent for the 2025 World University Games holding in Germany from July 16 to July 27.
Ndoma-Egba, former Senate Leader, a sports lover and avid lawn tennis player, described Taofikat’s qualification for the forthcoming Rhine-Ruhr 2025 International University Sports Federation (FISU) World University Games, as a remarkable feat for FUOYE, a citadel of learning renowned for excellence and sporting distinction.
The Pro-Chancellor stated that the Governing Council under his leadership, will not relent in its efforts to entrench the standard of competition and excellence; while equally ensuring a proper management of the exponential and astronomical growth the school has experienced about 14 years after its establishment.
Noting that Taofikat’s qualification for the World University Games underscores the university’s growing reputation in sports, Ndoma-Egba said: “It is a remarkable achievement and I congratulate Taofikat and FUOYE. It is in the spirit of ‘FUOYE Standard’ which is the standard of competition and excellence we are trying to entrench as part of our ethic.”
According to a report published in FUOYE website, Taofikat will compete in three major events – the 100m, 200m dash and long jump – out of the 18 fiercely contested sporting categories scheduled for the games.
The Chairman of FUOYE’s Sports Committee, Prof. Olusegun Adeyemi, who is also the Dean Faculty of Agriculture, was quoted in the report as saying: “I want to sincerely thank the FUOYE management, especially our visionary Vice-Chancellor for his continuous and passionate support for sports.
“Their sponsorship of the FISU trials held earlier this year at UNIJOS played a crucial role in helping us get to this level. I am confident that Taofikat will represent FUOYE and Nigeria with excellence and pride.”
The report also noted that “As the countdown to the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 Games begins, Sulaimon Taofikat Morenikeji stands tall as a symbol of inspiration, excellence and determination.
“Her journey embodies the rising star that FUOYE is becoming; a university steadily etching its name on the map of global academic and sporting distinction.”
