The Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has been named the winner of the Governor of the Year Award, 2025, by Democracy Newsline Newspaper.

Despite recently experiencing the loss of his father, Governor Ododo’s outstanding efforts in various sectors have earned him this prestigious recognition.

According to a press statement signed by the Publisher and CEO, Chief Olugbemi Femi, Governor Ododo’s nomination was based on the recommendation of a team of experts who conducted an opinion poll.

He said the governor was recognized for his remarkable achievements in infrastructure development, repositioning the education sector, constructing primary health care centers across the 239 wards, upgrading rural community roads, and ensuring prompt payment of workers’ salaries and other emoluments.

The award will be presented today, August 26, during the 15th Public Lecture and Award Ceremony at the Banquet Hall, National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, starting at 5pm.

The event’s theme is “The Role of Independent Media Organizations in Promoting Participatory Democracy and Good Governance in Nigeria.”

The occasion will also feature the launch of a ₦100 million fund for podcast studio equipment and the establishment of Democracy Newsline Newspaper’s Online Television, aimed at promoting democracy and good governance in Nigeria.

He said the event promises to be a significant gathering of leaders and stakeholders, discussing important issues and celebrating excellence
