The National Orientation Agency (NOA), has launched a nationwide sensitisation campaign aimed at promoting national values, public safety, disaster preparedness, and citizen awareness of government programs.

The Director General of NOA, Mall. Lanre Issa-Onilu, inaugurated the campaign during a press conference and stakeholders engagement meeting on Wednesday in Lokoja.

Represented by Mrs Margaret Yenemi, Issa-Onilu said the campaign aimed at promoting national values, public safety, disaster preparedness, and citizen awareness of government programs.

According to him, it focuses on five thematic areas: government programs, flood mitigation, national security awareness, national values re-orientation, and the Nigerian Identity Project.

“He explained that the campaign would highlight key government initiatives, including the NELFUND Student Loan Scheme, which has disbursed over N59 billion to over 600,000 students.

“The campaign will emphasise the importance of adhering to early warning advisories from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and proper waste disposal to prevent flooding.

“Promote security awareness and community engagement, with the goal of reaching no less than 3 million Nigerians per state.

“It will focus on promoting national values and discouraging extreme graduation practices that do not align with Nigerian values.

“The campaign will promote patriotism and respect for national symbols, including the national anthem, flag, and currency, he said.

Speaking On Social Safety Nets Expansion, Issa-Onilu said over 2 million households have been enrolled in Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program.

He added that the Trader Moni and Farmer Moni programs offer interest-free loans up to N100,000 and N300,000, respectively.

“Over 15,000 new security personnel deployed nationwide; security awareness campaign to reach 3 million Nigerians per state,” he said.

Earlier, the State Director of NOA, Mr Patrick Edogbanya, stressed the need for every Nigerian to imbibe a positive change of attitude at all levels.

He advised the people to always take personality responsibility and be security conscious, secure their homes, report strange activities, know their neighbors and build a united community.

“Every Nigerian must imbibe a positive change of attitude at all levels, reject shortcut to wealth and embrace diligence and integrity,” Edogbanya said.

The stakeholders, including security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, and NGOs, commended NOA for the initiative and pledged their support for the campaign.
