The Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI), Hon Meseko Durosinmi, led a courtesy visit to the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on September 16, 2025.

The Director General of the institute, Professor Samson Duna accompany the Board Chairman on the visit aimed to consolidate on the mutually beneficial collaborations between the two institutions.

During the visit, Hon Meseko highlighted the existing good working relationship between NBRRI and FRSC, citing their collaborative efforts in road accident prevention programs and the development of innovative solutions to reduce road accidents.

He commended the FRSC’s efforts in making Nigerian roads safer, particularly in enforcing speed limiters as per the ECOWAS Declaration and the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety.

The NBRRI and FRSC are currently working on a National Route Analysis to generate a comprehensive traffic databank for the country. Additionally, the two institutions, along with the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT), are planning to organize the African Transportation Conference 2026, themed “Enhancing Transport Systems for Sustainable Economic Growth: A Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Hon. Meseko showcased NBRRI’s state-of-the-art facilities, including concrete technology, for cutting-edge research, quality assurance testing, and material innovation. He emphasized the Institute’s commitment to advancing research, innovation, and capacity building in the built environment.

The NBRRI Chairman envisioned a future where Nigerian roads are safer, and buildings are more resilient, thanks to the collaboration between NBRRI and FRSC. He expressed his enthusiasm for working together to achieve this vision, which aligns with the goals of reducing road traffic fatalities and promoting sustainable economic growth.

The collaboration between NBRRI and FRSC is expected to have a significant impact on road safety in Nigeria.

By working together, the two institutions can leverage their expertise and resources to develop effective solutions to reduce road accidents and promote safe transportation systems.

The implementation of speed limiters, for instance, has been shown to reduce average traffic speeds by up to 10% and lower the variability of traffic speeds, resulting in a significant reduction in accident rates.

Overall, the courtesy visit marked a significant step towards strengthening the partnership between NBRRI and FRSC, with the potential to positively impact road safety and infrastructure development in Nigeria.
