An NGO, the Adamuha Safety Consciousness Foundation (ASCF), has launched a book on personal security and safety awareness aimed to promote a culture of security consciousness and responsibility.
The book, Titled: “Personal Security & Safety Awareness Guidebook”, was written to complement the unwavering commitment of Gov. Ahmed Ododo in instilling a sense of safety and building a victim-free communities.
In his remarks at the event in Lokoja, Mr Isiaka Haruna, Founder of the foundation, said the initiative was a testament to the organization’s dedication to promoting a culture of safety and responsibility.
According to him, its content offers practical insights and strategies to address pressing safety concerns, reflecting on shared goal of fostering a culture of safety mindfulness.
He solicited for sponsorship for 60,000 copies to be distributed to 300 schools, to support vulnerable youths in creating a victim-free society by reducing safety illiteracy.
Haruna, a Criminologist/Safety Advocate, noted that the gesture was to complement the concerted efforts of state government and security agencies in their relentless efforts to reducing vulnerability to crimes.
He commended the governor for his significant strides in addressing the state’s security challenges through his unwavering commitment to ensuring security of lives and property in the state.
Isiaka stressed that the governor’s commitment to safety and welfare was truly inspiring and commendable.
He advocated that the guidebook should form part of the teaching tools to enhance pupils, students across secondary schools to recognise unhealthy and hazardous situations and taking precautions.
He noted that the foundation had successfully delivered impactful safety awareness seminars to numerous secondary schools in Abuja, Nasarawa State, and Lokoja, promoting a culture of safety and responsibility among young minds.
“As we embark on this journey, I want us to remember that safety is a fundamental human right.
“We must strive to create environments where individuals can thrive without fear of harm. This guidebook serves as a valuable tool in our pursuit of a safer victim-free communities
“Let us work together to ensure its message resonates across communities, inspiring students and youth to be safety conscious, desist from drug abuse, abstain from cultism and discourages crime.
“This project demands our collective effort. We can’t do this alone. Safety is a shared responsibility that requires individual commitment and corporate support.
“We are seeking sponsorship for 60,000 copies of this valuable resource to be distributed to 300 schools, supporting vulnerable youths in creating a victim-free society by reducing safety illiteracy literacy. Your donation counts and save life.
“Let us work together to create a safer, more responsible, and empowered society for a brighter future of Kogi State,” Isiaka said.
In their various comments, the representatives of various security agencies, urged the people to be security conscious, sensitive and give reliable information to security agencies, saying, “security is everyone business”.
They stressed that security should not be left in the hand of only the security agencies, but collective efforts to combat crimes in the society.
The Kogi State Coordinator of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Femi Osungbohun, said insecurity remained the greatest threat confronting the Nigerian States.
He therefore commended the author for being able to conceive and identifyi a problem of the society, and went further to sensitise the public about the danger of insecurity.
Osungbohun urged governments and organizations to join in sponsoring the distribution of the books across schools.
“The book is a legacy and it will outlive a generation and become a reference point in the future,” he said.
On his part, Alh. Abdullahi Obaida, the GMD Zenith Group of Company, commended the author for the initiative and for contributing his quota to complementing the effort of the state government in safety
Obaida, who is the Founder of Kogi Indigenous Charity Foundation, urged the state government to adopt the author into the security system of the state by promoting the content of his book towards curbing insecurity.
Earlier, the book Reviewer: Dr Itodo Godwin, said the book was written to complement the efforts of governments and security agencies in ensuring safety and security in the country.
Godwin, who is the HOD, Department of Criminology and Secretariat Studies, Salem University Lokoja, opined that the book should be made as part of curriculum in Secondary Schools in the state to enable young men and women have consciousness of safety and security.
