Barrister James Fabola’s life story is a description of the power of resilience, intellect, and a deep-seated commitment to social justice. His humble beginnings from an agrarian community to the hallowed halls of academia and the bustling courtrooms of Nigeria, his journey is described as an unwavering dedication to uplifting his society.

Born in Poyan Community in Yagba East Local government area of Kogi State in 1956, his educational journey began at ECWA Primary School in 1962, where he obtained his First Leaving Certificate. He then navigated the formative years at Okonyi Secondary School, graduating in 1974. His intellectual curiosity led him to Kwara Technology (1976), and eventually, to the prestigious University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1978, where he pursued his passion for law. Graduating in 1981, he further honed his legal expertise at the Nigerian Law School in Lagos, qualifying as a barrister in 1982. But his thirst for knowledge remained unquenched. In 1999, he earned an MSc in Information, International Affairs, and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and today, he is a doctoral candidate at Federal University Lokoja (FUL), pursuing a PhD in Leadership and Strategic Studies.

Beyond his legal and academic pursuits, Barrister Fabola’s heart beats for social work. His roots in an agrarian community instilled in him a deep empathy for those living in poverty. Inspired by the Apostle Paul’s resilience, he resolved to be a catalyst for change, breaking the chains of poverty that gripped his community.

“I saw poverty, and I made up my mind to be one of those that would break the grip of poverty in the community I grew up in. There was love and unity but poverty persists.” He noted.

Barrister Fabola identifies the many problems Nigeria’s is facing today as a deficiency in leadership.

“If our leaders get it right, everything will fall into place. We have abundant resources, but we need the right vision and execution.” Barrister Fabola asserts with convinction. His perspective is not merely academic; it stems from a profound understanding of the nation’s potential and the challenges it faces.

His personal philosophy is built on the pillars of focus, vision, resilience, courage, empathy, and determination. These qualities have enabled him to journey through life’s storms and remain steadfast in his pursuit of a better society. “Kindness is a language the deaf can hear and the blind can see,” he often says, emphasizing the universal language of compassion.

Sharing his sharp insights on local politics, Barrister Fabola advocates for a paradigm shift. He believes that religion should not be a dividing factor, but rather a unifying force. “Politics should be about sharing the means of living, equitable distribution, and not religion, but it starts from individuals as humans make up the society.”

Barrister Fabola has demonstrated this in his strong endorsement of Leke Abejide which stems from a deep appreciation for Abejide’s proven track record and unwavering commitment to the Yagba Federal Constituency. The 2019 electoral contest, where both men competed on different platforms, serves as a crucial backdrop to this support. Despite the loss, Barrister Fabola’s reaction was not one of bitterness, but rather a testament to his character. He chose to demonstrate a spirit of grace and acceptance.

However, the significant point of emphasis is that, even in defeat, Barrister Fagbola recognized the value of the “tangible resources” Abejide deployed during the campaign. This acknowledgment speaks volumes about Abejide’s dedication and investment in the constituency.

“it is Abejide’s rich performance in office that has cemented my support. Abejide’s tenure has demonstrably raised the bar for representation in the Yagba Federal Constituency. This outstanding performance, coupled with Abejide’s political will, has convinced Barrister Fabola that he is the ideal candidate to address the constituency’s most pressing needs.

Barrister Fabola’s clamor for a third term for Abejide is not merely a political endorsement; it is a declaration of faith in his ability to continue delivering impactful results. He believes that granting Abejide another term will allow him to build upon his achievements and further advance the interests of the Yagba Federal Constituency.

Barr. Fabola expressed his unflinching support for Governor Ododo’s administration which is rooted in a deep appreciation for his leadership and performance. He acknowledges the governor’s tangible achievements, particularly in infrastructure development, and his vision for Kogi’s future, including the ambitious airport project. Due to this, Fabola has initiated the “Ododo till 2031 movement” giving a proof to his belief in the governor’s potential to transform the state.

He applauded Governor Usman Ododo’s “human heart,” noting his compassion for the less privileged and his commitment to development. He particularly praised the initiatives of Governor Usman Ododo, highlighting his efforts to unlock Kogi’s mineral wealth, a move he believes will foster self-sufficiency and prosperity for the state. He urged the Governor to maintain the image of a national figure whose influence extends beyond the state’s borders.

To the youth, Barrister Fabola’s message is clear: shun thuggery and embrace education. “Find a productive thing to venture in, ensure to take education seriously.” He urges them to reject the allure of political violence and instead focus on building a better future for themselves and their communities.

In Barrister James Fabola, we see a man of profound intellect, unwavering integrity, and a heart dedicated to serving his fellow citizens. His life’s work is illuminating the path towards a more just and prosperous Nigeria. His voice, seasoned with wisdom and empathy, resonates with the power to inspire and transform.
