Lokoja, April 15, 2025

The 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, has demonstrated the military’s commitment to community development by restoring a vital water source in the Lokongoma community, Lokoja, Kogi State.

The Lokongoma community is hosting the 12 Brigade Commanders’ Guest House.

Under the leadership of Commander Brigadier General Kasim Sidi, the brigade has successfully resuscitated a previously non-functional borehole, providing relief to residents who had been struggling with water scarcity for years.

The borehole, which had been out of service for some time, was a vital source of water for residents in the area.

The Lokongoma community had been facing significant challenges due to the lack of clean water, which is essential for daily life.

Recognizing the hardship faced by the residents, the Commander directed the swift repair and restoration of the borehole.

The military’s intervention has not only addressed the community’s water needs but also demonstrated its commitment to supporting its host communities.

The resuscitated borehole was officially handed over to the community on April 14, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the military’s community support initiative.

In his brief remarks at the handover ceremony, the Commander, who was represented by the Cantonment Maintenance Officer, Major Nathaniel Yakubu, said the intervention has brought much-needed relief to the residents.

According to him, the residents now enjoy renewed access to a steady and safe water supply.

The commander stressed that the initiative is expected to ease the daily burden of the people and foster stronger ties between the military and the host community.

“The Command remains committed to supporting its host communities and promoting civil-military cooperation through meaningful outreach efforts that enhance local well-being,” he said.

In his remarks, Chief Okpanachi Nicholas, the community leader, expressed deep appreciation for the military’s gesture, describing it as timely and impactful.

He noted that the initiative would go a long way in easing the daily burden of the people and fostering stronger ties between the military and the host community.

Nicholas stressed that the initiative reflects the positive impact of the military’s community support initiative.

The successful resuscitation of the borehole in Lokongoma is a testament to the military’s dedication to community development and its efforts to build stronger relationships with the communities it serves.
