The Pro-Chancellor/Chairman Governing Council of Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Distinguished Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, SAN, has sent out his heartfelt congratulations to former Senate President, Distinguished Senator David Mark, on the occasion of his 77th birthday.
Ndoma-Egba, the Senate Leader during the time of Senator Mark as Senate President, in a statement, described the accomplished soldier turned politician as a quintessential leader and complete democrat who is one of the best Senate Presidents the country’s highest legislative body has produced.
“I congratulate my boss, His Excellency, Senator David Mark, a perfect gentleman and notable politician, on the occasion of his 77th birthday.
“As Senate President for 8 years, you demonstrated exceptional leadership and helped to stabilize democracy in Nigeria. Nigerians will never forget the very significant role you played in saving the country’s democracy from collapse.
“Your eight-year tenure as Senate President was scandal and crisis free, and you will be best remembered for the Doctrine of Necessity you introduced at the most difficult period of our democracy.
“Your total transformation from a soldier to a complete democrat, who administered the affairs of the Senate with great wisdom, maturity and open-mindedness, was quite amazing.
“As you clock 77 today, I pray God to continue to shower you with his blessings and protection, and grant you long life, good health of mind and body.”
Born on April 8, 1948 in Otukpo Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State, Senator Mark widely referred to as the ‘Author of Doctrine of Necessity’, was the Senate President between 2007 and 2015.
The former Senate President served as the Military Governor of Niger State under General Muhammadu Buhari’s military administration, and was appointed Minister of Communications during the reign of General Ibrahim Babangida as military president.
