The General Manager of Kogi State Community and Social Development Agency, Chief Dauda Momoh, has commended the people of Ogori in Ogori Magongo Local Government Area for preserving their cultural heritage.

Chief Momoh was speaking at the grand finale of this year’s Ovia Osese Day celebration on Saturday at Ogori.

He described the Ovia Osese as unique, noting that the preservation of culture was essential in the peace and development of communities.

According to him, no society progresses without peace and unity which are products of cultural values, stressing that the Ogori people should be praised for sustaining the Ovia Osese cultural festival which he said should be made a national cultural event.

“Let me commend the Ogori people for being very orderly, you can see the various age groups, the young, the elderly, the women , the Youths, etc, this goes a long way at showing that there is unity of purpose among the people and the need to encourage such good example cannot be over emphasized”, Chief Momoh stated.

On the Western influence over the people’s culture, the General Manager said Culture should be preserved at all times, the influence of Western culture not withstanding, hence every community should emulate such example.

Chief Momoh assured that Ogori people would continue to benefit from the intervention programs of the Agency, noting that the people have been enjoying such programs.

He commended the elites, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders from the Ogori community for their commitment to the course of Ovia Osese, adding that the festival remains a pride to the people and the state at large

Chief Momoh Dauda also expressed appreciation to the Chief servant of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for creating an enabling environment for the thriving of cultural festivals, urging the various communities across the state to take advantage of the Governor’s disposition to advance their cultures.
