Lokoja, June 3, 2025

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kogi on Tuesday in Lokoja, organised “Employers Workshop” towards fostering a cordial relationship between corps members and their employers.

The workshop, themed “Deepening The NYSC/Corps Employers Working Relationship for Optimal Performance,” aims to bring together core employers of labour and corps members to brainstorm on how to unite and relate for effective service delivery.

In his remarks, the State Coordinor of NYSC, Mr Femi Osungbohun, emphasised the importance of the workshop in bridging the communication gap and ensuring smooth operations of serving corps members in Kogi State.

Osungbohun implored NYSC stakeholders and partners to remain committed to the success of the scheme.

He urged corps’ employers to create a conducive working environment for corps members, including providing comfortable accommodation, enhanced monthly allowances, and transportation.

“I implore NYSC stakeholders and partners not to relent in their commitment to the success of this noble scheme in Kogi.

“We are honoured for your presence for the workshop which enabled us to gather together today to rub minds with the core employers on the way forward to boost the comfort of our corps members,” he said.

Osungbohun solicited for a collective mission to improve the welfare packages for corps members serving in public, private, and educational institutions.

He stressed that core employers have a critical role to play in the success of the NYSC scheme and that their contributions would be highly appreciated in uniting strong bonds to enhance service delivery.

In his remarks, Gov.Ahmed Ododo, assured that the state government would make the year of corps members serving in the state a memorable one.

Ododo, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Monday Anyebe, emphasised that youth development is central to his administration, and improving the welfare of corps members is a topmost agenda.

The guest speaker, Pastor Oladele Jacob, a retired NYSC Deputy Director, who delivered a paper titled: “The Corps Employer as a Critical Stakeholder in Achieving the NYSC Mandate in our Contemporary World”, recommended expanding the scope of the annual employers workshop for more impact.

He also suggested that the NYSC management should resuscitate the annual award to the best employer of the year and institute better interactions with core employers.

Jacob urged corps employers to embrace new policy changes and be equipped to offer mentorship to corps members.
