.. …A Significant Investment in Education Sector.

This initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to eradicating poverty.

Governor Ododo disclosed this during a keynote address at the Kogi Education Stakeholders Sensitization Meeting for the 2024/2025 Annual Schools Census, held at the Glasshouse of Government House in Lokoja.

The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, emphasized that the prudent management of limited resources has made education a top priority. He highlighted the importance of the school census as a key focus area for the State Government.

Governor Ododo highlighted the State Government’s investment of over N1.3 billion in covering examination fees for WAEC, MOCK, JAMB, NABTEB, BECE, COMMON ENTRANCE, and BASIC 6. This commitment aims to alleviate financial burdens on parents and ensure unimpeded access to education for children.

Expressing concern over the 75% failure rate in this year’s JAMB examination, Governor Ododo attributed this to the transition to CBT examinations and pointed to teachers as a contributing factor. He stressed the need for schools to adapt to the changing examination formats, with plans to introduce CBT for Mock examinations in Kogi State next year.

Governor Ododo emphasized the importance of the Annual Schools Census as a fundamental tool for education sector planning. He urged stakeholders to collaborate effectively, emphasizing that without proper planning, progress would be hindered. The Governor called for honesty and cooperation from all parties involved in the upcoming school census to ensure the success of this vital planning process.

Similarly, in her presentation on Concept of annual School Census/Data Collection by Dr. Animoku Ahman Elizabeth, Director Planning, Research and Statistics, Kogi State Ministry of Education, described the annual school census as one that is very crucial and help in forming the education landscape of the State.

Dr. Animoku equally added that the Census will provide statistics for planning and resource allocation, said the importance of the forthcoming school census cannot be overemphasized, pointing out that data is key.
