The Kogi State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development wishes to clarify recent reports suggesting that athletes representing the state at the Gateway Games in Abeokuta have not received their allowances.

In a statement issued by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, James Sani, it was emphasized that the ministry has made comprehensive arrangements to ensure the welfare of the athletes, reflecting the state government’s commitment to the well-being of its citizens.

Prior to the athletes’ departure for Abeokuta, the Kogi State Government, under the leadership of the Honorable Commissioner of the ministry, provided all necessary resources, including welfare and logistical support, to the Kogi State Sports Council. The Commissioner has directed both the Director and the Accountant of the Sports Council to guarantee that all athletes and their officials receive their entitlements promptly.

Mr. Sani urged the public to disregard the unfounded claims regarding the non-payment of allowances, describing them as a misguided attempt to undermine the reputation of the diligent Commissioner, Hon. Monday Anyebe, who is actively working to enhance the ministry’s effectiveness and promote growth in the sports sector.

It is noteworthy that Commissioner Anyebe is currently in Ogun State to attend the closing ceremony of the games, demonstrating his support and solidarity with the athletes.

The ministry views the dissemination of these misleading reports as the work of mischief-makers intent on tarnishing the image of the Kogi State Government and the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

In conclusion, Mr. Sani encourages those spreading negativity to redirect their efforts towards constructive contributions that will foster the development of sports in Kogi State.
