A press statement signed by Adeyemi Babarinde Sunday, Chief Press Secretary of Yagba West Local Government Council, announced that the Executive Chairman, Hon. Tosin Olokun, recently organized a high-level security meeting to enhance peace and order within the LGA.
The meeting, which took place at the Council Secretariat, was well-attended by heads of security agencies, traditional rulers, and other key stakeholders. During the gathering, Olokun reiterated his administration’s unwavering dedication to ensuring the safety and security of residents. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the current peaceful environment through proactive and collaborative efforts.
Olokun stated, “We are committed to keeping Yagba West safe and secure for all. The protection of lives and property is a top priority that cannot be compromised.” In line with Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s directive, the Kogi ALGON chairman issued a stern warning against the unauthorized establishment of traditional stools in the local government, emphasizing that such actions are illegal and will face strict sanctions.
To uphold law and order, the council chairman announced the formation of a Byelaw Implementation Committee to enforce local government laws. The committee, which will be inaugurated on Monday, includes HRH Oba Abiodun Agbana (Baale of Egbe) as Chairman, Ajayi Omotayo, Esq. (Yagba West Local Government Legal Officer) as Secretary, Hon. Godwin Aro as a Member, Hon. Abolaji Kayode (Chief of Staff to the Chairman)
During his remarks, HRM Oba Ayodele Irukera, the Elegbe of Egbe and Chairman of the Yagba West Traditional Council, commended the collaboration between the council and security agencies.
“This type of leadership is exactly what we need. Security is a shared responsibility, and we are pleased to see the local government taking the lead,” he emphasized.
HRM Oba Olusegun Richard Adeola, the Elere of Ere, also expressed his appreciation for the inclusiveness of the meeting.
“This forum gives us hope. When traditional rulers and government work together, peace is guaranteed,” he remarked.
Representing the traditional council, Oba Abiodun Agbana, the Baale of Egbe, praised the local government for its proactive leadership.
“We applaud the chairman and the entire local government authority for their decisive actions in maintaining peace and order in our communities,” he stated. “As traditional leaders, we are committed partners in progress and will continue to collaborate with all security agencies to ensure stability.”
Hon. Pius Kolawole, the SSA on Security to the Governor (Yagba Federal Constituency) and former chairman of Yagba West, commended the current administration for upholding the legacy of prioritizing security.
“I am impressed with the progress being made. Security is fundamental to development, and I commend Hon. Tosin Olokun for his deliberate efforts in promoting coordination among security forces,” he remarked.
Kolawole further urged community leaders, particularly the youth, to closely collaborate with the government and security agencies, emphasizing that security is a shared responsibility.
The meeting concluded with a resolute commitment to uphold the rule of law, enhance collaboration, and ensure that Yagba West continues to serve as a model of peace and security in Kogi State.
